About Angie
Hi, I’m Angela Hawkey, an artist living and painting on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
My love of painting began with my grandfather, a landscape artist who taught me to paint and introduced me to oils from a young age. I’ve always been drawn to the richness of oil paint and the way colour and texture can bring a scene to life. What began as something I simply loved doing gradually became my career, and today it’s incredibly special to know that my paintings have found their way into homes all over Australia.
My work is largely inspired by the Australian landscape and the places and little moments that make me want to stop and take notice. Sometimes that’s a sweeping country landscape or the colours of the coast, and other times it might be a vase of flowers, a bowl overflowing with lemons or a cocktail sitting on the table.
I paint in oils, almost entirely with a palette knife rather than a brush. I love the freedom of it — layering thick paint, allowing colours to mix on the canvas and leaving the marks and imperfections visible. I’m not trying to recreate a scene perfectly. I’m much more interested in capturing how it feels.
Colour has always been a big part of my work. I love paintings that bring happiness and warmth into a home without taking themselves too seriously.
From my studio to The Block
One of the more unexpected parts of my journey has been seeing where my paintings have ended up.
My artwork has now been featured on The Block from 2021 - 2025, which still feels pretty special. Seeing something that started out on an easel in my studio suddenly appear in a beautifully designed room on television is a bit surreal.
I've also had the opportunity to exhibit at art fairs, including the Affordable Art Fair, where I get to do one of my favourite things — actually meet the people who buy my work.
In 2026 I was delighted to be named #24 on FeedSpot's list of top
Painting can be quite a solitary job, so I really value the people this journey has brought into my life. I’ve been lucky enough to work alongside other artists, friends and galleries, and even my daughter, which makes it all that much more special.
Meeting collectors in person and hearing why they connected with a particular piece means a lot to me. I especially love receiving photos afterwards and seeing where an artwork has found its home. It’s a lovely reminder that while so much of the creating happens quietly in my studio, art has a wonderful way of bringing people together.
Why I paint
For me, art doesn't need to have a complicated meaning.
Sometimes you simply see a painting and it makes you happy.
That's what I hope my work does.
I want to create pieces that bring colour and personality into a home and become part of the everyday life that happens around them — dinners with friends, noisy family mornings, quiet cups of coffee and all the ordinary moments in between.
Alongside my original paintings, I also offer fine art prints created from some of my favourite works. It has allowed people who may not be ready to invest in an original painting to still have one of my pieces in their home, which I love.

I feel incredibly fortunate that something I genuinely enjoy creating has found its way onto the walls of so many homes. And there are still so many paintings I want to paint.

I wanted to create a space that not only helps artists gain greater exposure, but also opens up opportunities to exhibit their work at art fairs and connect with new collectors.
