Microstock is basically a term used to describe stock photography available for purchase / license online. The microstock image libraries almost entirely consist of images and other media sourced solely online. Typically a large community of photographers contribute their works to these microstock sites, and then receive a small royalty payment for each download of their work. These add up and each month or so a total payment is forwarded to each photographer who’s work was downloaded.
Microstock websites are an ever increasingly popular source of photos, images, video footage and audio tracks for creative professionals around the world. A combination of low cost and near instant access to the materials means they can offer more value to their clients and keep projects moving along. Everybody wins!
